Free crypto prop firm challenge: practise the rules without paying a fee
Last updated: 3 October 2026
Crypto prop firms sell evaluations. You pay an entry fee, trade a demo account under strict rules, and if you pass, the firm lets you trade a larger account and keeps part of the profits. The fee is lost every time you break a rule, and most attempts end that way. A free practice challenge lets you find out where your strategy breaks before you pay anyone.
What this page offers. Bitcoin Era is a free, educational challenge on live crypto prices with a virtual balance. It does not fund accounts or pay out profits. It shows you whether your approach survives prop-style rules, at no cost.
Why prop firm challenges cost money
The entry fee is the business model. A firm charges each candidate for the evaluation, and only a small share of candidates ever reach a funded account. The fee usually scales with the account size: a small account costs a few dozen dollars, a large one several hundred. Some firms refund the fee with the first profit split, others do not. Read the terms before paying, and check what happens if the firm changes its rules or closes.
What a free challenge should test
A useful practice run copies the constraints that end real evaluations. The profit target matters less than people think. Traders rarely fail because they cannot make 10%; they fail because one bad session breaks the loss limit. A good free challenge should therefore apply:
- A daily loss limit, the rule that ends most attempts.
- A maximum drawdown over the whole evaluation.
- A minimum number of trading days, so one lucky trade cannot pass the test.
- Live market prices, because replaying a calm historical week teaches little about a volatile one.
The Bitcoin Era rules
Every bot starts with a virtual $10,000 and trades on live prices. It has to clear three levels in a row:
| Level | Target | Min. days | Max. days | Max. drawdown | Daily drawdown |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | +10% | 5 | 10 | -10% | -5% |
| Level 2 | +5% | 5 | No limit | -10% | -5% |
| Level 3 | +5% | None | No limit | -10% | -5% |
Breaking the daily drawdown (-5% within 24 hours) or the maximum drawdown (-10%) ends the run on the spot, exactly as it would in a paid evaluation. You can then read what happened, adjust the strategy and start a new bot.
How to use a free challenge before a paid one
- Write your rules down. Entry signal, exit signal, position size, maximum loss per trade. If you cannot write it, a bot cannot run it.
- Size positions from the loss limit backwards. With a -5% daily limit, risking 2% per trade leaves room for two losing trades in a day. Risking 5% leaves room for one.
- Run Level 1 at least twice. One pass can be luck. Two passes in different market conditions say more.
- Look at the worst day, not the final balance. The worst day tells you how close you came to failing.
- Only then compare paid firms. Check the fee, the rules, the payout terms, the firm’s track record and where it is registered.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a free crypto prop firm challenge?
Some firms run occasional free trials or competitions, but standard evaluations charge a fee. Bitcoin Era is a free practice challenge with prop-style rules and a virtual $10,000. It does not fund accounts.
Does Bitcoin Era give me a funded account?
No. Bitcoin Era is an educational simulator. All balances are virtual and no profits are paid out. It is built to test a strategy before you consider a paid evaluation.
What rule fails most prop firm challenges?
The daily loss limit. One oversized position or one bad session breaks it, even when the strategy is profitable over a full week.
Do I need a card to start?
No. Signing up asks for no card, no deposit and no payment of any kind.
